Today I received a totally legit-looking CloudWatch alert email informing that I owed AWS US$148,786,575,095.06. To make sure it wasn't a scam, I went into the AWS Console and saw, to my surprise, that it was indeed reporting I owed AWS about 10% of it’s valuation.
Yesterday, this account was on-track to spend the monthly usual €0.47. For about 15 minutes I was really concerned, thinking that somebody, somehow, had broken into my account and was mining crypto like there was no tomorrow.
Thankfully this story has a happy ending. AWS support confirmed me they had an incident with the spending reports, and were all-hands-on-deck to address it.
Pro tip: billing user-experience shouldn't require a defibrillator.
